First edition, first print hardback of DIPLOMACY TO POLITICS - By Way of the Jungle by Sir Wynn Hugh-Jones (Sir Hugh Jones) and published by The Memoir Club, Durham, in 2002. Inscribed by Sir Hugh on the front endpaper.
The book is in very good condition (clean blue cloth boards and gilt lettering on spine) with only minor wear to the pictorial dust jacket, which is not price clipped (light creasing to edges). Internally, the pages are clean and tight and there are no tears and no other inscriptions.
Sir Hugh Jones was born in 1923 in Llangollen, North Wales, where his father was Headmaster of the County School. Educated at Ludlow and Selwyn College, Cambridge, he went on to serve in the Royal Air Force during the Second World War.
Following a career spanning twenty-six years in diplomatic and civil service, he then became Director General of the English Speaking Union. Sir Hugh's working life culminated with his positions as Secretary General and then Honorary Treasurer of the Liberal Party.
Married with Three children, Sir Hugh now resides in Avebury, Wiltshire, where he is a tireless conservation and community campaigner. Jones published the first volume of his autobiography, Diplomacy to Politics by way of the Jungle in 2002 and the second Campaigning Face to Face in 2007.
