First edition first print hardback of A WOOD CALLED BOURLON (The Cover-up after Cambrai, 1917) by William Moore and published by Leo Cooper Ltd in 1988. Previous owner inscription and ownership plate to front endpaper.

The book is in very good condition (brown cloth boards with gilt lettering to spine) with light creasing to the top and bottom edges of the spine. The page edges are lightly age tanned. The book is in a very good unclipped dust jacket which has light creasing to the top of the front cover, spine and back cover. The top edges of the dust jacket are lightly yellowed. Internally the pages are lightly age tanned but clean and tight and there are no tears or other writing.

After the great victory in the famous tank battle at Cambrai in 1917 the church bells, having been silent for three years, rang out joyously all over Britain. But within ten days triumph had turned to disaster. How did this happen and why? William Moore, a distinguished First World War historian, attempts to explain what went wrong.
