William Michael Rosetti played a devoted Horatio to his elder brother's Hamlet, to the whole Rosetti family, to the luminous Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood and to the wider world of Victorian artists and writers. His experience of the Pre-Raphaelites and their world appeared in several different forms at different times of his life. This personal history has been mainly drawn from his Some Reminiscences, published in 1906 when he was seventy seven, into which has been dovetailed passages from his Memoir of Dante Gabriel Rosetti, published in 1895.
