Wilbur Smith was born in Central Africa in 1933. He was educated at Michaelhouse and Rhodes University. He became a full-time writer in 1964 after the successful publication of When the Lion Feeds, and has since written over thirty novels, all meticulously researched on his numerous expeditions worldwide. His bestselling Courtney series includes Assegai, The Sound of Thunder, Birds of Prey, Monsoon, and Blue Horizon.

His other books include Those in Peril, River God, Warlock, The Seventh Scroll, and The Sunbird. His books are translated into twenty- six languages and have sold over 120 million copies. Smith was born to a British family in Northern Rhodesia, now Zambia, in Central Africa, and attended Rhodes University in South Africa. Several of Smith's novels have been turned into movies and TV shows.

Warlock is the stunning sequel to bestselling River God by one of the world's most acclaimed adventure writers and follows the fate of the Egyptian Kingdom through the eyes of Taita, a multi-talented and highly skilled eunuch slave.

Set in Ancient Egypt and following on from River God and The Seventh Scroll, Warlock marks the return of the world's finest adventure writer. After the death of his beloved Queen Lostris, Taita performs the rites of embalmment and burial for her.

Then, stricken with grief, he retreats into the forbidding deserts of North Africa, where he becomes a hermit. Over the years that follow he devotes himself to the study of the mysteries of the occult until, armed with these extraordinary powers, he gradually transforms himself into the Warlock.

Now Taita answers the summons from the beyond. He leaves the desert vastness and returns to the world of men, to find himself plunged into a terrible conflict against the forces of evil which threaten to overwhelm the throne and the realm of Egypt, and to destroy the young prince Nefer, who is the grandson of Queen Lostris.

With vivid depictions of battle and intrigue, of love and passion, with fascinating characters both good and evil, Wilbur Smith brings to life in colourful detail the world of ancient Egypt. This is a masterful feat of story-telling by one of the world's best-selling authors.

'This is a stirring tale, full of chariot battles ... Smith has whipped up a heady brew ... and undoubtedly deserves his immense popularity far more than most of his rivals.' – Evening Standard

'Smith brings to life every colourful detail in the world of Egypt so much so you can almost feel the heat and taste the dust as the narrative builds to cracking pace ... Warlock is ripping yarn and a classic adventure story.' – Irish News
