Truman Capote was born in New Orleans in 1924. He was an American author, screenwriter, playwright, actor, many of whose short stories, novels, plays, and nonfiction are recognized literary classics. In 1948 his first novel, Other Voices, Other Rooms, was published to international critical acclaim, assuring Capote a place among the prominent postwar American writers.

He won the O Henry Memorial Short Story Prize twice and was a member of the National Institute of Arts and Letters. He is the author of many highly praised books, including A Tree of Night and Other Stories (1949), The Grass Harp (1951), Music for Chameleons (1980).

His other works include Breakfast at Tiffanys (1958), featuring the iconic character of Holy Golightly, (later made in to a popular film starring Audrey Hepburn), and the nonfiction masterpiece In Cold Blood(1965), which immediately became the centre of a storm of controversy upon its publication.

At least 20 films and television dramas have been produced of Capote novels, stories, and plays. An unfinished novel, Answered Prayers was published posthumously in 1986. Truman Capote died in 1984.

"Answered Prayers is perhaps the most famous unpublished novel in contemporary American letters.

The three chapters of the unfinished novel - all that apparently exists - are: Unspoiled Monsters (chapter 1), Kate McCloud (chapter 2) and La Cote Basque (probably chapter 5).

The protagonist is one P.B. Jones, an amoral bisexual of unknown parentage, who escaped from an orphanage at 13 and has been on the run - and on the make - ever since. P.B, who is probably the author's alter ego, has always had to live by his wits and charm, and he is an extraordinarily vivid and amusing character who is determined to make his way to the top of the heap - which in his case means the international jet set, by whom he is eternally fascinated.

However, as the novel opens, P.B. has tumbled from the heights, which he has finally scaled, right down to the gutter, which he thought he had left forever.

The pages of this extraordinary book are filled with rapier wit, beautiful and scandalous women, psychotic and sadistic husbands, a kidnapping, ill- disguised real people who were friends or enemies of the author's, entertaining true stories and some of the best gossip of our times. "
