TRICK OF THE EYE Jane Stanton Hitchcock SIGNED
First US edition, first print hardback of TRICK OF THE EYE, by Jane Stanton Hitchcock and published by Dutton in 1992. Flatsigned by the author on the half title page (see picture below). The book is in very good condition (clean terricotta-burgundy boards and bright gold lettering on spine) with only minor wear to the dust jacket, which is price clipped (very little rubbing to some parts of the edges and corners, a small folding mark inside the jacket, nothing too drastic). Internally, the pages are clean and tight and there are no tears and no other inscriptions.
An engrossing novel of psychological suspense, set in the social world of art and money where nothing is as it appears. Faith Crowell is 39 years old, content in an artist's life that is solitary but not lonely. A specialist in 'trompe l'oeil' - the art of painterly illusion that makes things seem to be what they are not-she is about to learn that illusion is more than a painter's trick: for some it is a way of life. Francis Griffin is one of the country's foremost art collectors - the commission she is about to offer demands far more than artistic technique. In fact, it will test Faith's very soul. The author's first mystery and an Edgar award nominee. 275 pages. ISBN: 0 525 93529 0
