The author and historian Tom Clancy is best known for his technically detailed espionage and military science storylines set during and in the aftermath of the Cold War, and for video games that bear his name for licensing and promotional purposes. Seventeen of his novels were bestsellers, and more than 100 million copies of his books are in print.

Tom Clancy has written seventeen New York Times bestselling novels, all published by G. P. Putnam's Sons and Berkley Books in the U.S.: The Hunt for Red October (Berkley only, 1985), Red Storm Rising (1986), Patriot Games (1987), The Cardinal of the Kremlin (1988), Clear and Present Danger (1989), The Sum of All Fears (1991), Without Remorse (1993), Debt of Honor (1994), Executive Orders (1996), Rainbow Six (1998), The Bear and the Dragon (2000), Red Rabbit (2002), The Teeth of the Tiger (2003), Dead or Alive (2010), Against All Enemies (2011) and Locked On (2011). The Sum of All Fears is the best-selling thriller novel by Tom Clancy, and part of the Jack Ryan series. It was the fourth book of the series and was also later turned into a major film starring Ben Affleck, Morgan Freeman, James Cromwell, Alan Bates and Michael Byrne. This book was released just days before the Moscow uprising in 1991, which signaled the dissolution of the Soviet Union.

"In the aftermath of Communism's collapse, the Gulf War, the realignment of the world's powers, comes a novel so terrifyingly real, so uncommonly prescient, that it could have been written only by Tom Clancy.

With his "genius for big, compelling plots" and his "natural narrative gift" (The New York Times Magazine), Clancy has written five novels, which now total more than 28 million copies in print. His most recent book, Clear and Present Danger, was the best-selling novel of the 1980s.

And now he gives us his most remarkable novel yet.

How do you save the United States President from himself? What if the President is incompetent to deal with the greatest crisis of all? Jack Ryan never thought he would have to ask those questions as, the world order changing, he prepares the ground for the Middle Eastern peace plan that, at last, might be the one to work.

But too many groups have invested too much blood. Shunned by their erstwhile Soviet sponsors, increasingly isolated by the realignment of the Mideast, these terrorists have one more desperate card to play, requiring a degree of ruthlessness never before seen. With one terrible act, the world is plunged into an instant nuclear crisis -- and the floundering President is plunged into the ultimate nightmare.

Forces collide. Shots are exchanged. What had seemed to be an isolated and horrible incident appears to each side as the incendiary mischief of the other. With the world poised on the brink of nuclear war, Ryan and his FBI counterpart, Dan Murray, frantically seek a solution before the chiefs of state lose control of themselves and the world.

With the exceptional realism and authenticity that have long been his hallmarks, Tom Clancy constructs a novel of unrelenting suspense, a story as explosive as today's headlines. It is Tom Clancy at his best and there is no better."

Another classic Clancy. His most successful book assures his place at the forefront of modern thriller writers. Sunday Times
