Tim Severin, explorer, film-maker and lecturer, has made many expeditions, from crossing the Atlantic in a medieval leather boat to going out in search of Moby Dick and Robinson Crusoe. Severin first came to the world's attention in 1976 with his historic Brendan Voyage. In 1980, he decided to take on a legend once more, recreating the Seven Voyages of Sinbad from Oman to China, testing the mythical Tales of the Arabian Nights in a ship made from Malabar timbers. He has written books about all of them. He has won the Thomas Cook Travel Book Award, the Book of the Sea Award, a Christopher Prize, and the literary medal of the Academie de la Marine. He made his historical fiction debut with the hugely successful VIKING series. The Book of Dreams and The Emperor's Elephant are the new books in his most recent series, SAXON.

The Viking trilogy - an international best seller translated into more than a dozen languages. The central character is a minor Saxon Prince Sigwulf, saved from execution after his family is slaughtered by the ruthless King Offa. Why was he spared His 'Devil's Mark' - eyes of different colour. Forced into exile, Sigwulf finds himself in a world of danger, treachery and adventure. Sworn Brother is the second book in the series.

"The breathtaking second volume in the Viking trilogy - an epic historical adventure in a world full of Norse mythology and murderous feuds.

London, 1019: a few months have passed since Thorgils has escaped the clutches of the Irish Church only to find himself at the centre of a capricious love affair with Aelfgifu, wife of Knut the Great, ruler of England, and one of the most powerful men of the Viking empire. A passionate relationship between two unlikely lovers begins to unfold, which forebodes uncontrollable consequences

Forced to flee the realm, Thorgils teams up with Grettir, an outlaw feared for his volatile and brooding behaviour. The two men become travelling companions and sworn brothers - which binds them together beyond death.

From the frozen regions of the land of the Ski Runners, who trade in furs, and along the great river leading to Miklagard, the queen of cities, Thorgils must use his wits to survive among counterfeiters who forge the royal coinage, bounty hunters and slave traders. Finally, in Constantinople, he witnesses the ultimate revenge . . .

Sworn Brother continues an utterly compelling journey back in time to a world that is brimming with wonderfully crafted characters and their insatiable hunger for riches and renown."
