Jens Munk, 16th century Danish seaman and explorer, was one of only a few who escaped alive from his search for the North-West Passage to India; his diary of the months he lay trapped in the ice is the basis of this exceptional biography interweaving his persistent, ultimately fruitless quest with the political intrigues of the Danish court.
