SET 609-11 Gershwin PORGY AND BESS Box Set TAS Listed

A Box Set of THREE 33rpm LP Records of the World Premiere Complete Recording of SET 609-11 GERSHWIN PORGY AND BESS, featuring the Cleveland Orchestra and Chorus conducted by Lorin Maazel. The cast includes Willard White; Leona Mitchell; McHenry Boatwright; Florence Quivar; Francois Clemmons; Barbara Hendricks; Arthur Thompson; Barbara Conrad. Music by George Gershwin, Libretto by DuBose Heyward, Lyrics by DuBose Heyward and Ira Gershwin. It was issued on the Stereo DECCA purple narrowband label in 1976. Included is a 30-page booklet containing background notes, cast biographies and libretto all in English. Featured on the 'Best of the Bunch' section of the TAS List.

The records themselves are graded at least excellent, with only a couple of light surface marks when viewed under normal domestic lighting. Superb sound quality in what is a brilliant recording and performance, with NO jumps, ticks, or crackle and just a very occasional very light dust pop (being hyper-critical). Otherwise more or less faultless playback.

Minimal to no spindle wear. Labels very clean, the very lightest spider marks (virtually none).

The box is graded a bit less than excellent, clean and sturdy, with no just some light wear. The original inner sleeves are in excellent condition with no wear to speak of. The booklet also has no wear to speak of. All in all it would be difficult to find a better copy of this particular item.
