First edition, first print hardback of BLACK BEAUTY ACCORDING TO SPIKE MILLIGAN by Spike Milligan and published by Virgin Publishing Ltd, London in 1996. Signed by Milligan on the title page.

The book is in near fine condition (black cloth boards with silver lettering to spine) with no significant wear. The dust jacket, which is not price clipped, is in very good condition (just a bit of curling to top edges). Internally, the pages are clean and tight. There are no tears and no inscriptions. Very minor tanning to pages nothing more.

The legend of Black Beauty has spawned (if a horse can be said to spawn; it's more of a frog thing, really) a great many horsey tales on film, tv and in print, but even Anna Sewell's original classic adventure failed to tell it like it really is. Spike canters through this volume in his best-selling "According to" series with a bawdy irreverence and adds a unique element by introducing each chapter with a new poem.
