First UK edition, first print hardback of THE HUNDRED SECRET SENSES , by Amy Tan and published by Flamingo (HarperCollins), London in 1996. Flatsigned by the author on the title page (see picture below).

The book is in very good condition (clean dark blue-green boards and gold lettering on spine) with only minor wear to the dust jacket, which is not price clipped (slight creasing to edges, couple of tiny tears to corners). Internally, the pages are clean and tight and there are no tears and no other inscriptions. Some tanning to page ends. There is also a barcode sticker on the back cover.

The story of Olivia Yee and her half-sister, Kwan Li. One who grew up in San Francisco, and the older sister who was born and lived in a remote village in China. Olivia Yee was only five years old when her seventeen-year-old sister Kwan was brought to California to be a caretaker for her.

With a sharp eye for the tragi-comedy of those whose lives are caught between two cultures, Amy Tan weaves an extraordinary and inspiring tale. In prose which blends the deceptive simplicities of fairy tales with vivid characterisation and a sly, poignant humour, she proves once again that she has no rivals - Amy Tan is the quintessential storyteller.
