Information
First edition, first print hardback of CHURCHILL AS WAR LEADER Right or Wrong? by Richard Lamb and published by Bloomsbury Publishing Limited, London, in 1991. Signed and dated by Lamb on the title page.

The book is in very good condition (Clean grey boards with gilt lettering on the spine) with only slight wear to the dust jacket, which is not price clipped (light creasing around the edges mainly around the top of the spine). Internally, the pages are clean and tight and there are no tears and no other inscriptions. There is minimal foxing inside the jacket.

Richard Lamb is an eminent historian and journalist. He served with the British Eighth Army in Italy during World War II. In a brilliant work of historical investigation, Lamb reveals secrets about Winston Churchill never before published.

"Winston Churchills leadership during World War II meant that Britain and Europe escaped the threat of a Nazi takeover. However, during his time in office he made serious blunders which he later tried to cover up. In Churchill As War Leader Richard Lamb uncovers secrets unmentioned in Churchills own memoirs, official war histories or his official biography.

Richard lamb exposes a myth Churchill’s postwar claim that his colleagues and Admirals concurred in his decision to sink the French fleet at Mers-el-Kebir in 1940, a mistake which made an enemy of France and resulted in 10,000 British casualties in the war with Syria. The book also explores Churchill’s less-than-cordial relations with Roosevelt, and reveals how Churchill made a grave error in accepting the Communist propaganda which encouraged him to back Tito.

Richard Lamb pays tribute to Churchill’s fine qualities, and gives new insight into a great leader who made mistakes and rash decisions that changed the course of history. His meticulous original research replaces the traditional newsreel image of Churchill without denigrating him."
