First edition hardback of THE TEMPLE OF THE ANDES by Richard Inwards, privately published in 1884 and printed for the author by Vincent Brooks, Day & Son. Inscribed to a previous owner and dated by Inwards on the verso of the front endpaper. Also included is a hand written signed letter from Inwards to the same owner. Illustrated with diagrams and drawings. Rare.

The book is in good condition for its age (brown boards with gilt lettering to the front) with heavy rubbing to both spine edges, bumping to corners; the hinge is slightly loose and there is a ten centimetre tear to the front endpaper but all of the pages are intact. There is some foxing to the title page and tissue guard.

A study of the ruins of an ancient temple in Bolivia, considered at that time to be the oldest in the world.
