Richard Dunwoody METHOD IN MY MADNESS First Edition Signed

First edition, first print hardback of METHOD IN MY MADNESS: 10 Years Out of the Saddle, by Richard Dunwoody. Published by Thomas Brightman Limited, London, in 2009. Signed and inscribed to a previous owner by Dunwoody on the title page. Foreword by A.P. McCoy.

The book is in very good condition (Clean dark green cloth boards with silver lettering on the spine) with only minor wear to the pictorial dust jacket, which is not price clipped (light creasing to the edges). Internally, the pages are clean and tight and there are no tears and no other inscriptions.

Three times champion jockey, Richard Dunwoody retired from racing in December 1999 having firmly established himself as one of the all time greats of National Hunt, winning two Grand Nationals, the Cheltenham Gold Cup and the Champion Hurdle amongst his recordbreaking 1699 winners.

Method In My Madness is an autobiographical account of how he has spent the 10 years in retirement continuing to push himself physically and mentally, in a succession of apparently insane challenges. He also takes time out to reflect on his racing career with the characteristic candour that defined his best selling autobiography Obsessed.

"'In one sense the life I had in racing is dictating my life after racing. There was a buzz, a danger and an adrenaline charge every time I got on a racehorse. That's not easy to give up and I have done so reluctantly. If the next part of my life can give me some of what racing gave me, I will have succeeded. This is the challenge.'

Insightful and revealing account of life in retirement from the three times Champion Jockey, who remains a legend of the sport, considered by many to be the greatest ever jump jockey.

Compelling and entertaining tales from the extraordinary challenges and adventures he has undertaken

A decade after a reluctant retirement, Method In My Madness reveals Richard Dunwoody to be as driven and focused as ever, finding new challenges away from riding winners and combining his sense of adventure with a keen sense of perspective and humour.

He reveals his thoughts on how racing has changed in this time and on the jockeys of today, paying particular attention to AP McCoys achievements. Whether he is following Shackletons footsteps to the South Pole, taking tea and tips from the Queen, leading riding holidays in war torn lands, walking 1000 miles in 1000 hours or simply reminiscing on racing, he has continued to lead an extraordinary life that can be both fascinating and frustrating but never dull."

'Richard Dunwoody has been much better copy since he retired than when he was riding' The Daily Telegraph

'Engaging, witty and thought-provoking read, with reflections from the mind of a true champion' Daily Mail

'Superbly-crafted, it is no ordinary racing autobiography. Though his thoughts on the sport are, as always, hard-hitting and sometimes controversial, it will appeal to a much wider audience. We reckon it's another winner for Dunwoody!' Daily Mirror

'Hard-hitting & Superb' Racing Post

'Get into a sportsman's head ... fascinates on racing issues' Spectator
