Richard C Smith HORNCHURCH OFFENSIVE First Edition Multi Signed

First edition first print hardback of HORNCHURCH OFFENSIVE (Volume Two: 1941 to the Airfield's Final Closure) by Richard C Smith and published by Grub Street in 2001. Signed by Smith and 3 veterans on the front endpaper. The signatures are those of: W Bird of 229 Squadron; G Reynolds of 2713 Squadron; and one other I am unable to identify.

The book is in fine condition (red cloth boards with gilt lettering to spine) with no significant wear. The book is in a near fine unclipped dust jacket which has light creasing to edges and a small shop sticker on the back cover. Internally the pages are clean and tight and there are no tears or other inscriptions.

Hornchurch Offensive covers from 1941 to the end of the war. Action was continuous with famous characters like Max Bygraves joining the myriad of nationalities stationed there. The base was predominant during vital events such as the Dieppe raid; the Channel Dash; Operation Starkey; D-Day; and, in countering the V-1 menace. Post-war it was an Air Crew Selection Centre from 1948 - 1956 and fondly remembered by the likes of Ronnie Corbett and Norman Tebbit.

210 pages including Appendices, Bibliography and Index. Illustrated with one section of black & white photographs.
