Limited edition slipcased hardback of BIRDS OF PARADISE (Monograph of the Paradiseidae, or Birds of Paradise, and Ptilonorhynchidae, or Bower-Birds) by Richard Bowdler Sharpe and published by The Folio Society in 2011. Introduction and notes by Errol Fuller. Text edition only.The book is in near fine condition (dark green cloth boards with gold lettering to spine, and black lettering to a white bookplate attached to the front board) with no significant wear, the slipcase is in very good condition with some small stains to the top of the front board. Internally, page 29-30 is lightly creased, otherwise the pages are clean and tight with no tears or inscriptions.
Richard Bowdler Sharpe's Monograph of the Paradiseidae, or Birds of Paradise, and Ptilonorhynchidae, or Bower-Birds was first published by Henry Sotheran & Co. of London, in two volumes, between 1891 and 1898. This Folio Society Limited Edition presents Bowdler Sharpe's text in a single volume, with the plates collected in a separate tome. The Appendix of 1898, containing numerous updates, has been incorporated in the text at the appropriate points. Where applicable, entries on individual species are followed by a note by Errol Fuller containing current taxonomical information.
