First edition, first print hardback of FIT FOR LIFE, by Ranulph Fiennes and published by Little, Brown & Company, London in 1998. Signed, dated and inscribed by Fiennes on the title page.

The book is in very good condition (Clean blue cloth boards, gold lettering on spine, with only minor creasing to the spine edges) and slight wear to the dust jacket, which is not price clipped (light creasing to the edges, light markings at the back which are only visible under the light). Internally, the pages are clean and tight and there are no tears and no other inscriptions. Very slight yellowing towards the page ends.

Sir Ranulph Fiennes is the only man alive ever to have travelled around the Earth's circumpolar surface (more people have been on the Moon!) His record-breaking expiditions include travel by riverboat, hovercraft, manhaul sledge, skidoo, Land Rover and ski...He was described by The Guinness Book of Records as the worlds greatest living explorer. That was back in 1984 since when he has broken many more world records and led many more expeditions to remote regions.

Sir Ranulph Fiennes is also a prolific writer. He has written numerous books about his army service and his expeditions as well as a book defending Robert Falcon Scott from modern revisionists. Fiennes served in the British Army for eight years including a period on counter-insurgency service while attached to the army of the Sultanate of Oman.

"There can be no greater example of the benefits of physical fitness than Sir Ranulph Fiennes, a man who remains in peak physical condition in his mid-50s. Described by the Guinness Book of Records as 'the world's greatest living explorer', he is a veteran of unsupported expeditions to the North and South Poles and across the Antarctic continent, cheating death on countless occasions. In 1996, as part of a team whose age range spanned five decades, he successfully competed in the Eco-Challenge, one of the most punishing endurance races on the planet.

What is the secret of his success? How has a self-confessed chocoholic and pipe-smoker, largely desk-bound between expeditions, managed to retain the fitness of a 21-year-old athlete?

In Fit For Life, Ranulph Fiennes explains how we can all benefit from the fitness regime he has developed over the last thirty years. Beginning with easy and effective exercises designed to maintain a basic level of fitness, he progresses to the training programme required for involvement in more strenuous pursuits - including the feats of endurance for which he is famous. Offering along the way advice about different body types, self-motivation, diet, environmental effects and ways to avoid stress, illness and injury, and recalling episodes from his expeditions to the world's most inhospitable territories, Fiennes shows how these graded fitness techniques, sensibly and properly practised, have the potential to revolutionise our everyday lives.

Whether you are an aspiring Eco-Challenger, an amateur sportsman or someone simply trying to burn off the calories, Fit For Life will help you reach your personal best - and stay there"
