First edition, first print hardback of ANGLING AFLOAT: Complete Guide for Coarse Fishermen by Stephen Harper and published by The Crowood Press Ltd., Marlborough in 1989. Signed by Harper on the title page.

The book is in very good condition (Clean blue cloth boards with gilt lettering on the spine), with only minor wear to the pictorial dust jacket which is price not clipped (light creasing to edges). Internally, the pages are clean and tight and there are no tears and no other inscriptions.

Stephen Harper has pursued most of the freshwater species of fish found in Britain, but he has always enjoyed a special affinity with the awesome and enigmatic pike. He was a founder member of the original Pike Society, and The Pike Anglers’ Club.

Angling Afloat is his fourth book, and it was followed by Dream Pike, 2010. His other the critically acclaimed works; A Line on the Water, 1991, Broadland Pike, 1998, and The Pike of Broadland, 2007.

Whether in a canoe on the upper reaches of Norfolk's tranquil rivers or on the storm-tossed wildness of Loch Lomond or Lough Allen, in the traditional punts of the Francis Francis Angling Club on the tidal Thames or an ultra-modern purpose-built fishing craft designed to hunt predatory fish on the vastness of Lake Superior, the angler afloat enjoys two great advantages over his bank-bound colleagues - mobility, and access to fish which are otherwise unreachable.

In Angling Afloat Stephen Harper explores the application of a wide range of boat-fishing techniques in the pursuit of all the popular coarse species in a variety of different waters. He enlists the experience and knowledge of a dozen other well-known anglers, all experts in their field, to make this book a comprehensive guide to what is becoming an integral part of this popular sport.

The newcomer to boat fishing will find here all he needs to know about boats and engines, anchoring and mooring, basic equipment and helpful accessories, and, of prime importance, how to keep safe on the water.

The more experienced boat fisher will find hints on how to improve his sport with innovative ideas on tackle and techniques, as well as thrilling accounts of successful expeditions at home and abroad.

Fully illustrated with diagrams and photographs, this is a book no aspiring or experienced boat fisher can be without."

160 pages. Illustrated with black & white and colour photographs and line drawings within the text.
