It was during snatched coffee breaks from his job in a busy book shop that Stuart wrote his first children's book, THE CRY OF THE ICEMARK. Stuart’s debut went on to win the inaugural Waterstones Children's Book prize in 2005, garnering extraordinary reviews and media coverage.

His books have since been translated into 15 languages.

"'The blood of the Strong-in-the-Arm clan awoke, roaring in Thirrin's brain, and the fighting spirit of the Hypolitan, her mothers people, straightened her spine and sent a tingling excitement coursing through her veins. She was heir to the throne of the Icemark...

She must defend her land and her people!'

When her father dies in battle, fourteen-year-old Thirren becomes Queen Of The Icemark, a tiny kingdom forever caught between dangerous neighbours.

But she bears a heavy burden. Thirrin must find a way to protect her people from the most terrible invasion her nation has ever known. - and do so before the end of the winter snows.

She needs new allies, but can she really trust the son of a White Witch, or Wolf-folk, Vampires and giant talking Snow Leopards from across the icy plains? The Cry of The Icemark is the glorious story of how she rallies her country and finds some extraordinary allies. But its also a heart-felt tale of duty and sacrifice, of unexpected laughter and awful uncertainty, and of a girl whose friendships are forged in the heat of battle."

494 pages.
