A Remarkable Journey to the Summit of Mount Everest by Bear Grylls, an English adventurer, writer and television presenter.

"Every year the death toll on Mount Everest's perilous slopes rises. For every six mountaineers who make it to the top, one will die. These victims remain frozen in the world above 26,000 ft - what is chillingly known amongst climbers as 'the Death Zone'. Bear Grylls is the youngest British climber to reach the summit and return alive.

This feat was all the more remarkable by the fact that two years yearlier, whilst serving in the British Army, Grylls broke his back in a free-fall parachuting accident in South Africa. Miraculously, he was not paralysed. Having spent months in a military rehabilitation centre, he made a determined recovery to face the severity of Everest.

Bear endured over seventy days on Everest's south-east face, and only narrowly avoided death when he fell into a crevasse at 19,000 ft. At the age of twenty three he overcame the extreme weather conditions and months of limited sleep to stand on top of the world's highest mountain.

Facing Up is a personal story of courage, humour, friendship and faith. Consistently engaging and beautifully written, Bear Grylls has an inspirational tale to tell."

'Bear Grylls, the youngest person to ascend Everest, did so after many months recovering from a broken back. He writes convincingly of fear and doubt. This is an honest and compelling story' - Ranulph Fiennes.

'As exquisitely stark and inspiring as the bare crags of Everest itself. Honesty shines from the pages, Bear's indomitable spirit encouraging you on through threat of frostbite and avalanche until you are at the summit, breathlessly sharing in his triumph' - Benedict Allen.

'Facing Up is the thrilling true story of a remarkable young climber, who made it to the top of the world. I warmly commend it to you' - George Carey, Archbishop of Canterbury.

289 pages. Illustrated with eight pages of colour photographs taken on Mount Everest.
