Item description, condition report, payment options and related products below

First GGBP paperback of THE FEUD IN THE CHALET SCHOOL - Chalet School No. 48 by Elinor M. Brent-Dyer and published by Girls Gone By Publishers, Somerset in 2009. It was first published in 1962. This complete and unabridged edition is now out of print.

The book is in fine condition (clean illustrated covers and brown lettering on front and black on spine) with only minor shelf wear. Internally, the pages are clean and tight, there are no tears and no inscriptions.

The Chalet School is a series of approximately sixty school story novels by Elinor Brent-Dyer, initially published between 1925 and 1970.

The school was initially located in Austria, moved to Guernsey in 1939, following the rise to power of the Nazi Party, then to "Plas Howell", a house on the border of England and Wales, then to St Briavels, close to the English - Welsh border and finally to Switzerland.

Chalet School books were originally published in hardback between 1925 and 1970. The novels were reissued in paperback format between 1967 and 1995. Usually with updated language. Some were more or less uncut, but many others were abridged to various extents, including chapters deleted from some titles. A few were split into two paperback volumes, and several were retitled.

Several authors have written books about the Chalet School. Some of them follow on from the last book of the series, and others attempt to fill in some of the "gaps" in the earlier years of the school. All books are published by Girls Gone By Publishers (formerly Friends of the Chalet School).

The Feud in the Chalet School was first published by W. & R. Chambers, Ltd, in 1962 and it is No. 48 in the Chalet School series.

"The girls of the Chalet School, returning at the beginning of a new Christmas term, are stunned to find that a neighbouring school, St. Hilda’s, whose premises have been burned down, has joined them.

Problems arise, especially as the Headmistress of St. Hilda’s has been seriously injured and the young acting headmistress feels that St. Hilda’s should be housed together and continue as a separate school.

This is impossible, and her resentment affects the girls so much that a bitter feud springs up between the Middles of both schools, which does not end until both schools have had some thrilling and hair-raising experiences."

241 pages.
