Item description, condition report, payment options and related products below

33rpm LP Record of SUA 10465 FAMOUS VIOLIN COMPOSITIONS, featuring Ida Haendel on violin and Alfred Holecek on piano. It was issued on the blue MONO SUPRAPHON label in 1962.

The record itself is in a little less than excellent condition, with only one or two light visible surface scratches/marks. Excellent sound quality, with NO jumps, pops, ticks or crackle. In fact, it is a near faultless playback. Minimal to no spindle wear. Labels very clean, light spider marks.

The outer sleeve and original SUPRAPHON inner sleeve are in very good condition, with light ring marks and slight bumping to corners, rubbing to edges. The top edge has a one inch split. The back cover is lightly soiled. There is light age browning to the inner sleeve, which is a bit creased, although there are no tears.

Ida Haendel was born in Polish Chelm. She drew attention to her talent when, at the age of three, she took the violin out of the hands of her elder sister and played on it a song she had heard her mother singing. Half a year later she began to receive instruction in violin-playing and, still a small child, was accepted at the Warsaw Conservatoire, where she completed her studies at the age of nine, carrying off the gold medal. At the same age she gained the first Bronislaw Hubermann prize in the National Contest for the most gifted children. When twelve years old, she had her first great concert success in London, where she played the Brahms Concerto. It was the start of a brilliant, uninterrupted international career, which took the artist from one success to another.

An exceptional talent for the violin was the rare fundamental gift which Ida Haendel cultivated to the full. Not satisfied with what she had already achieved, she again sought to perfect her playing by studying with George Enesco in Paris and Karl Flesch in London. This she succeeded in doing, but not only did she work her way up to the top rung of the world ladder of violin virtuosi, she had become an exceptional artistic personality. Her playing is distinguished by flawless brilliance of execution, beauty of tone, and a perfect sense of style and balance, according to the character of the work she is interpreting.
