Item description, condition report, payment options and related products below

33rpm LP Record of 33CX 1672 BEETHOVEN VIOLIN CONCERTO in D Major (Op 61), featuring the French National Radio Orchestra conducted by Andre Cluytens. The soloist is David Oistrakh. It was issued on the Columbia blue and gold mono label in 1959.

The record itself is in excellent condition, with very few if any visible scratches or marks when viewed under normal house lighting. Stunning sound quality, with NO jumps, pops, ticks or crackle. Just about faultless playback. Minimal to no spindle wear. Labels very clean, no discernible spider marks.

The Garrod & Lofthouse outer sleeve is also in excellent condition, with just a bit of rubbing to the open edges. The spine is intact with no fading or obliteration of letters. The inner sleeve (patents applied for) has no wear to speak of. Overall, a superb example of a sought after vinyl record that is fifty years old and still has a clear, near faultless playback.

1806 was the year after the composition of Fidelio, the year of its first revision, and the year in which Beethoven wrote three sunny masterpieces, the serenest and most loving of which is certainly this violin concerto. He dedicated it, not to the co-operative lady friend of the moment, but to his boyhood friend Stephan von Breuning, a character who emerges more finely from the tale of Beethoven's life than any of his other friends.

Of the two sets of cadenzas written to the concerto, David Oistrakh chose those by Fritz Kreisler, and he plays them beautifully, demonstrating the great skill and remarkable technical dexterity that marked him out as one of the finest solo violinists of the second half of the twentieth century. This recording is pure delight!
