Set of three paperbacks - THE FOUNDATION TRILOGY: Foundation, Second Foundation, Foundation and Empire by Isaac Asimov and published by Panther Books Ltd. / Granada Publishing Limited, London, in 1972. Panther Science Fiction Series.

The books are good reading copies with only slight wear (creasing & rubbing to the spine and rubbing to the edges & corners, some tanning to the pages, one or two creasing lines on covers, small '20' written in ink on the covers of each book). Internally, the pages are clean and tight and there are no tears and no inscriptions.

Multi award winner Isaac Asimov is widely considered a master of hard science fiction and, along with Robert A. Heinlein and Arthur C. Clarke, he was considered one of the "Big Three" science fiction writers during his lifetime. He wrote the epic science fiction series The Foundation Trilogy over a span of forty-four years. Foundation was originally a series of eight short stories published in Astounding Magazine between May 1942 and January 1950. The first four stories were collected, along with a new story taking place before the others, in a single volume published by Gnome Press in 1951 as Foundation. The remainder of the stories were published in pairs by Gnome as Foundation and Empire (1952) and Second Foundation (1953), resulting in the "Foundation Trilogy", as the series was known for decades. While the term "Foundation Series" can be used specifically for the seven Foundation books, which in its in-universe chronological order are Prelude to Foundation, Forward the Foundation, Foundation, Foundation and Empire, Second Foundation, Foundation's Edge, and Foundation and Earth. it can also be used more generally to include the Robot Series and Empire Series, which are set in the same fictional universe, but in earlier time periods. If all works are included, in total, there are fifteen novels and dozens of short stories written by Asimov, and six novels written by other authors after his death, expanding the time spanned in the original trilogy (roughly 550 years) by more than twenty thousand years. The series is highly acclaimed, winning the one-time Hugo Award for "Best All-Time Series" in 1966. An eight-part radio adaptation of the original trilogy, with sound design by the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, was broadcast on BBC Radio 3 in 1973—one of the first BBC radio drama serials to be made in stereo.

FOUNDATION: This is the first volume of Asimov's world-famous trilogy, one of the great classics of science fiction. "The time is a future century, in the days of the Julastic Empire - a society of a million worlds throughout the Milky Way. The Old Empire is crumbling into barbarism and Hari Seldon and his band of psychologists see before them only the despair of thousands of years of anarchy, unless they can create a new force - the Foundation - dedicated to art, science and technology - the nucleus of a new empire ..." 189 pages.

FOUNDATION & EMPIRE: This is the second volume of the trilogy. "This story takes us into the holocaust of galactic conflict where among a million worlds, two mighty movements clash over the destiny of the Universe...grappling for control amid the chaos of the stars - and only one can survive..." 172 pages.

SECOND FOUNDATION: The third volume of the trilogy. "The new and expanding interplanetary force of Hari Seldon's Foundation has met and defeated the decrepit First Empire in a war that stretched across the dark expanses of the Milky Way. Now they were free to pursue the brilliant 'Seldon Plan', to plot and control the future through the science of psycho-history - all unaware that the most dangerous menace of all is there in their midst...." 187 pages.
