First edition, first print hardback of A PASSION FOR ANGLING A companion to the television series, by Chris Yates, Bob James and Hugh Miles and published jointly by BBC Books and Merlin Unwin Books, London in 1993. Photographs by the authors. Illustrations by Rodger McPhail.

The book is in near fine condition (Clean green cloth boards, gold lettering on spine) with no wear worth mentioning to the dust jacket, which is not price clipped. Internally, the pages are clean and tight and there are no tears and no inscriptions.

A Passion For Angling, which accompanies the major BBC tv series, tells of a fishing adventure which takes three fanatical anglers Chris Yates, Bob James and Hugh Miles across Britain.

The thrill of a twitching quill float, the steady pull of a taking carp, the unstoppable rush of a highland salmon - these were moments, the boyhood memories, which the team wanted to re-capture and with high hopes the trio sets off: to Redmire Pool, where they catch some monster carp; to Scotland's Spey, for trout and salmon; to the Kennet, where Bob lands a near-3lb roach and, soon after, a brace of spectacular pike.

Chris takes us after the hard-fighting barbel of the Avon, and there are encounters with large tench, chub, rudd, grayling - not to mention gudgeon and minnows.

The Riverside conversations between Bob and Chris, and the contrasting angling methods they employ (Chris prefers split cane and dough bobbins while Bob, with his carbon rods and swim-feeders, is more of a high-tech man), reveal a vast amount about fish, fishing, and what fires people with a passion for angling.

Daybreak on an English chalkstream; nightfall by a mist-shrouded carp pond. These are the vivid backdrops to scenes of fish hunted, fish lost, and fish caught - the classic ingredients of an angling adventure.

191 pages. Illustrated with colour photographs throughout.
