Philip Andrew Haigh is a British I.T. Professional, TV presenter. He is joint-editor of the nationally distributed journal Battlefields and Chairman of the Yorkshire Battlefields Society. He has made a lifelong study of the military aspects of the Wars of the Roses and he is the author of non-fiction military history books on the subject of the Wars of the Roses, and in recent years he has taken to writing military fiction works based on characters and events from World War II.

In 1999, Haigh founded the Yorkshire Battlefields Society and became a trustee of the Battlefields Trust and editor of the trusts' journal 'Battlefield' - which was formally the Yorkshire Battlefields Society's quarterly magazine. Haigh retains a wide following of loyal readers. His published titles are: The Military Campaigns Of The Wars Of The Roses(1995), The Battle Of Wakefield 1460 (1996), Where Both The Hosts Fought - The Battles of Edgecote and Lose-Cote-Field(1997), Campaigns Of The Wars Of The Roses (1998), From Wakefield To Towton 1460 - 1461 (2002).

"Between 1455 and 1487 a series of military engagements was fought in England which finally toppled the ruling House of Lancaster, ushered in the House of York, and ultimately installed the House of Tudor as rulers of England for the next 100 years. Here for the first time in a single volume is the full account of the fifteen battles of the Wars of the Roses with an emphasis on the strategy and tactics employed. In this bitter and bloody civil war - later named the Wars of the Roses - the stakes were high, yet the fighting involved only a small number of combatants campaigning for just twelve or thirteen weeks over the thirty-two year period. The harsh reality of combat on the battlefields of fifteenth-century England was that much of it was hand-to-hand and brutal, and often fought in miserable weather conditions.

Although much is known of the social milieux of the period and of the political machinations that led to the wars, this book is unique for its descriptions of when and why the various factions arrived at a given battlefield to fight for their causes, and how they fought once battle had been joined. After revealing the disastrous outcome of the Hundred Years War and the origins of the Wars of the Roses, the author's narrative fires the opening bow shots of the first battle at St. Albans in 1455. It climaxes thirty-two years later in 1487 with the final decisive conflict at Stoke Field where Henry VII successfully defended his crown against the Yorkists and the pretender Lambert Simnel. The causes of the rebellions of 1469 and 1470 are also examined, showing how the crown of England changed hands three times in less than twelve months."

Illustrated with specially commissioned maps and diagrams depicting the crucial stages of each individual battle and a selection of carefully chosen contemporary illustrations. The Military Campaigns of the Wars of the Roses reveals this dramatic fight for the crown of England in a vivid new light."
