First edition first print hardback of PAST FORGETTING (Memoirs of the Hammer Years) by Peter Cushing and published by Weidenfeld & Nicolson Limited in 1988. Signed to a previous owner by Peter Cushing on the title page. Foreword by Peter Gray.

The book is in near fine condition (red cloth boards with gold lettering to spine) with the very faintest trace of moisture staining to the bottom of both boards - this is barely noticeable and does not affect any pages. The book is in a very good unclipped dust jacket which has no more than very light general wear externally and with the moisture staining already mentioned slightly more evident inside the jacket (I've tried to show this in the accompanying photo). Internally the pages are clean and tight, though heavily age-toned as is common with this title, and there are no tears or other inscriptions.

For Peter Cushing, being a film star was a job very often not at all glamorous but frequently hilarious. Now in response to 'public demand', Cushing has recalled the Hammer years. For two decades Hammer Films and certain other British film companies, such as Tyburn, made a host of 'horror' films which chilled the blood but were never vicious or gratuitously violent. These films, many of which are now classics of their kind, still delight new generations.

The Cushing who battled with monsters of evil, such as Dracula, or who himself lopped off Ingrid Pitt's head in Vampire Lovers, is the gentlest and most lovable of men. In this wise and witty book the definitive 'Sherlock Holmes' deduces that being a superstar is not quite what it seems.
