First edition second impression hardback of THE GREAT ESCAPE by Paul Brickhill and published by Faber and Faber Ltd in 1951. Drawings by Ley Kenyon.

The book is in very good- condition (red cloth boards with blue lettering to spine) with light age related staining to the edges of the boards. The book is in a very good- unclipped dust jacket which is slightly tatty particularly at the top of the spine, with light creasing, age related staining and small tears here and there. Previous owner's name inscribed on the inside of the front board. Slight staining of page edges. Internally the pages are clean and tight and there are no tears.

One of the most famous true stories from the last war, The Great Escape tells how more than six hundred men in a German prisoner-of-war camp worked together to achieve an extraordinary break-out. Every night for a year they dug tunnels, and those who weren't digging forged passports, drew maps, faked weapons and tailored German uniforms and civilian clothes to wear once they had escaped. All of this was conducted under the very noses of their prison guards. When the right night came, the actual escape itself was timed to the split second - but of course, not everything went according to plan...
