First US edition, first print hardback of DEAD MEN FLYING: Victory in Viet Nam - The Legend of Dust Off: America's Battlefield Angels, by General Patrick Henry Brady with Meghan Brady Smith and published by WND Books, Washington, D.C, in 2012. Signed and inscribed by General Patrick Henry Brady on the dedication page.The book is in near fine condition (Clean beige boards with black lettering on the spine) with only minor shelf wear to the illustrated dust jacket, which is not price clipped. Internally, the pages are clean and tight and there are no tears and no other inscriptions.
General Patric Brady is one of the most highly decorated veterans in American history. He served over 34 years in the Army in duty stations across the world: In Berlin during the building of the Wall; as commander of the DMZ in Korea, in the Dominican Republic; in the Pentagon as chief spokesman for the Army and for 2 years in Viet Nam. In two tours in Viet Nam he rescued over 5000 wounded and flew over 2500 combat missions.
He is identified in the Encyclopedia of the Viet Nam War as the top helicopter pilot in that war and is one of two Viet Nam soldiers to earn both the Medal of Honor and the Distin- guished Service Cross, our nation's second highest award. Some pundits also identify him as the most decorated living veteran.
His awards include: Two Distinguished Service Medals; the Defense Superior Service Medal; the Legion of Merit; six Distinguished Flying Crosses; two Bronze Stars, one for valor; the Purple Heart and 53 Air Medals, one for valor. He is a member of both the Army Aviation and Dust Off Halls of Fame.
Brady is a former president of the Congressional Medal of Honor Society and a past Commissioner of the Battle Monuments Commission during the construction of the WWII memorial. General Brady has a bachelor's degree in psychology from Seattle University and an MBA from Notre Dame University.
Meghan Brady Smith was commissioned a second lieutenant Medical Service Corps from the ROTC Brady Battalion at Seattle University where she earned dual degrees in Journalism and the Humanities. She also has a Master's degree in education. She served in Germany, Kosovo, Kuwait and Operation Iraqi Freedom during the invasion of Iraq where she earned the Bronze Star.
