First Edition thus hardback of 101 STORIES, by O. Henry and published by The Folio Society Ltd., London, in 2002. Selected by Laurent Lalonde, introduced by Fred Chappell. Several illustrations within the text and cover design by Rod Waters.The book is in very good unread condition (Hardback iIllustrated with light brown, blue & silver cloth boards with silver lettering on front and on spine in blue original slipcase). The slipcase is in very good condition with only minor discolouring around the edge at the back. Internally, the pages are clean and tight and there are no tears and no inscriptions.
The text of the stories in this selection follow, with minor emendations, those printed in The Complete Works of O. Henry published by Doubleday & Co, New York in 1953.
American writer O. Henry - real name William Sidney Porter - is best known for short stories The Gift of the Magi and The Last Leaf. His short stories are well known for their wit, wordplay, warm characterization and clever twist endings. In recognition of his talent an award was set up in 1918 in his name. The O. Henry Award is given each year to the author of the best story printed in an American magazine.
This folio selection of the stories was compiled into chapters of the books in which they were originally published.
