Anne Manning THE OLD CHELSEA BUN HOUSE First Edition 1855 Sprayed Edges Good

First edition hardback of THE OLD CHELSEA BUN HOUSE: A Tale of the Last Century, by Anne Manning and published by Arthur Hall, Virtue & Co., London, in 1855. Red sprayed page edges, embossed design to both boards.

The book is in good condition for its age, with small losses to the head and tail of the spine, bumping to corners and heavy rubbing to the tips of the front page edges, as pictured. Very little evidence of foxing. Internally the pages are clean and tight and there are no tears or inscriptions. There is a frontispiece with tissue guard. A sturdy little antique book.

Written with an old style font, this is a historical novel set in the 18th century that focuses on the life of Lady Betty Spadille and explores themes of social class, identity, and the contrast between frivolity and the harsh realities of life.

335 pages plus 5 pages of adverts.
