First edition, first print hardback of NATURE ABOUNDING, edited by E L Grant Watson, illustrated by C F Tunnicliffe and published by Faber & Faber in 1941.The book is in very good condition for its age, though the lettering to the spine has faded. The original dust jacket, which is not price clipped, is still intact, although as you can see from the picture there is a piece missing at the top of the spine. There are also one or two smallish tears. Not bad, considering it is nearly 70 years old! Internally, the pages are clean and tight. There are no tears but there is a previous owners name written in ball pen on the front free endpaper.
This is a book of nature showing how living things on the earth and under the earth, in the air, and in the water, have been appreciated by naturalists, physicists, explorers, sportsmen, novelists, essayists, gardeners, and farmers, and also by mere ordinary men and women who stand and stare and wonder.
The book contains many writings from various sources, and is a compilation of both fiction and non fiction work. Authors include Thomas Hardy, Charles Darwin, Herman Melville, Herodotus, Joseph Conrad, Gilbert White, Kenneth Graham and Ivan Turgenev.
