Ignacio Javier "Nacho" Gomez Novo is a Spanish footballer and one of Rangers' most popular and respected players. He formerly played for Huesca in Spain then moved to Scotland with Raith Rovers and Dundee.
In July 2004, he moved to Rangers for ?450,000. During his first season at the club he scored 25 goals and won a league and League Cup double. He had to wait four years before lifting the league championship again in the 200809 season, where he also scored the winning goal in the 2009 Scottish Cup Final which won him his second double with the Ibrox club.
He currently plays for Carolina RailHawks in the North American Soccer League.
Darrell King is a sports writer with The Evening Times and a member of Radio Clyde's SuperScoreboard team.
When Nacho Novo rejected overtures from arch-rivals Celtic to sign for Rangers in the summer of 2004, he became an instant hit with the Gers legions. Now, as he closes in on six years at Ibrox, the striker pulls no punches as he tells his own explosive and controversial story.
Nacho charts his journey from his upbringing in Galicia, Spain to the streets of Kirkcaldy and Dundee as he made his name in Scottish football - and relives his own personal agonies after the tragic death of his mother. And, for the first time, he recalls the day he said 'no thanks' to Celtic - a decision that defined his life.
There's also the inside story of the Ibrox managers, the glory goals that have clinched SPL titles and UEFA Cup glory, the fall-outs and the controversy and a rare insight into Nacho's life away from football. And Novo reveals the shocking stories behind life in Glasgow as one of the few players to have split the football-mad city in two.
I Said No Thanks is an honest and rare insight into life as an Old Firm star.
