Miroslav Ivanov THE ASSASSINATION OF HEYDRICH First Edition
First UK edition first print hardback of THE ASSASSINATION OF HEYDRICH by Miroslav Ivanov (Translated from the French by Patrick O'Brian) and published by Hart-Davis, MacGibbon Ltd in 1973.The book is in very good condition (black cloth boards with silver lettering to spine) with light creasing to the top and bottom of the spine and some very light rubbing to the bottom edges of both boards. The book is in a very good unclipped dust jacket which has light creasing to the top of the front cover and top and bottom of the spine and back cover. There is also a tiny indentation and a light sticker removal mark on the front cover. Lightly age tanned page edges. Internally the pages are lightly yellowed but are otherwise clean and tight and there are no tears or inscriptions.
Compiled from eye-witness reports, this book dramatically conveys the tension of the times, of the days leading up to the death of the 'butcher of Prague' - and beyond, as the assassins themselves are hunted down in the centre of their own capital. The author, at the same time, recounts the political circumstances of the assassination, its significance, and result - as a reprisal, the Nazis wiped the village of Lidice, with its inhabitants, from the face of the earth.
292 pages including black & white photographs, List of Illustrations and Author's Prologue.
