First edition first print hardback of JACK INGE: BIOGRAPHY OF A SPORTSMAN by Michael Shephard and published by The Inge Publishing Company in 1997. Signed by Shephard on the title page.The book is in very good condition (black cloth boards with gilt lettering to spine) with light creasing to the top and bottom of the spine. The book is in a very good unclipped dust jacket which has light creasing to the top and bottom of the front cover and spine (which also has a fingernail closed tear to the top) as well as the top of the back cover. The top and front page edges have light age spotting, with the top edges more heavily spotted. Internally the front and back endpapers are lightly age spotted and the pages lightly yellowed but they are otherwise clean and tight and there are no tears or other inscriptions.
By the death of Jack Inge at 67 many old boys of Durnford and the Old Malthouse Schools, Dorset, will feel a loss.
Educated at Cheltenham College and Selwyn College, Cambridge, Jack Inge actively pursued his love of field sports at both. He arrived at Durnford in 1931. Ten years later, when Durnford closed down, he moved to the OMH, where he stayed for 30 years until his retirements in 1971.
He wrote the 'Coastal Areas' section of the Wildfowling Volume of the Lonsdale Library and in Eric Parker's Shooting Weekend Book, and contributed a number of articles to The Field after the war.
Many boys were introduced to a love of field sports by Jack and educating the young in gun safety, dog training and fly-fishing was always of great satisfaction to him. This is his biography.
