First edition, second print hardback of ANEURIN BEVAN (A Biography Volume 1: 1897-1945) by Michael Foot and published by Macgibbon & Kee in 1962. Signed and dated with a personal message by Foot on the front endpaper.

The book is in good condition (brown cloth boards with gold lettering to spine) with bumping to all four corners and creasing to the top and bottom of the spine. The book is in a fair unclipped dust jacket that has creasing and rubbing rubbing to the front and back covers and spine and with multiple open and closed tears. Internally, the pages are lightly tanned but tight and there are no tears or other inscriptions.

When Aneurin Bevin died in July 1960, the world recognised that it had lost a great man, one of the foremost socialist thinkers and political leaders of the century, a man of soaring imagination, courage and personal magnetism and the founder of the NHS.

Michael Foot knew him intimately for twenty-five years.

This first volume in the biography covers the period between Aneurin Bevin's birth in 1897 and his entry into the Labour Cabinet in 1945.
