"Publication of this work in 1960 by the then Hon, Secretary of the British Falconers' Club satisfied a world-wide demand for an authoritative textbook on Falconry, a sport in which an ever increasing interest is being taken. The book covers every aspect of Falconry: the choice of hawk for training with the necessary furniture and appliances: individual species used in Falconry, their special problems of training and management and their handling when flown at quarry in the field: home life, health and disease; lost hawks and the moult. There are also chapters contributed by Major S. E. Allen and Mr. J. G. Mavrogordato on game hawking and rook hawking.
This third edition has enabled the author to update the glossary with polyglot vocabulary, and the book also contains a bibliography and index.
"I think that if I ever wanted to be a falconer, I would wish for no better book to guide me than Michael Woodford's...The book is rich in meat: full of rare and savoury words: bursting at the seams with knowledge of the subject. One can sense the research, as one can see the practical, kenning hand." Scottish Field"
