Signed, dated and inscribed to a previous owner by Harris on the title page, which is quite rare. Jacket photograph by Kevin Martin. The book is in good condition (clean black boards and silver lettering to spine) with a couple of black marks caused by moisture damage around the corners. The book is in a good unclipped dust jacket, which has some creasing, chipping to edges, some tiny yellow foxing spots on the folding flaps, some moisture stains and spots inside the jacket which is not noticable from outside. Internally, the pages are clean and tight and there are no tears and no other inscriptions. There is heavy browning to the page ends and a little brown water mark on the top page ends. Please refer to the photos.
An extravagant ganster is ambushed and assassinated; the only witness a ten-year-old-boy. Nothing irritates Chief Inspector Pel more than having to investigate the killing of a criminal; but a couple of peripheral enquiries - a respected spinster blundgeoned with poker, a sports outfitter accused of an assault on his assistant - provide unexpected links with the murder which project Pel into what becomes an international investigation with Scotland Yard. Finally the 'Rosbif' connection strikes gold and a two-nation gangland conspiracy is convincingly terminated.A book in the Inspector Pel series. Mark Hebden's thirteenth crime novel starring the redoubtable, quirky Chief Inspector Evariste Clovis Desire Pel.
