The book is in very good condition (Clean green cloth boards with gold lettering on spine which has minor creasing & rubbing to the spine edges) with some wear to the dust jacket, which is not price clipped (slight creasing to the edges, slight chipping to the corners, 1 - 2 inch long closed tears to the spine corners (one has been repaired with sticky tape inside), together with slight creasing and a small piece missing from the bottom edge near the corner, slight foxing inside the jacket which is not visible from outside). Internally, the pages are clean and tight and there are no tears and no other inscriptions. There is minor tanning to the pages, minor foxing to the page ends and slight spinal lean.

An English novelist, biographer and critic, Dame Margaret Drabble, DBE FRSL is a former Chairman of the National Book League (1980-82), and was awarded the CBE in 1980. She received the E. M. Forster Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 1973.

"The Realms of Gold is an optimistic book. Margaret Drabble's perceptive eye and pen range over a myriad of ordinary small events -- which together add up to a meticulously observed story, describing the life of Frances Wingate, an eminent archaeologist, and the lives of her family.

Event follows event, the strands become widely separated, and Miss Drabble deftly brings them together again with precision, insight and humour - the achievement of a major writer. The skill with which she manipulates her characters and events is remarkable..."
