First edition first print hardback of REFLECT ON THINGS PAST The Memoirs of Lord Carrington published by William Collins Ltd in 1988. Signed by Carrington on the title page. Ex Libris plate attached to inside front board.The book is in very good- condition (black cloth boards with gilt lettering to spine) with light bumping to the edges of the spine. The book is in a very good- unclipped dust jacket which has slight moisture staining along the inside bottom edge. This is also evident to the bottom corners of the page edges though no text is affected and the book is still perfectly readable. Internally the pages are otherwise clean and tight and there are no tears or other inscriptions.
Lord Carrington was a member of every Conservative administration at one time or another, from Winston Churchill's in 1951 to Margaret Thatcher's in 1979. A former High Commissioner to Australia, he was also Chairman of the Conservative Party. Lord Carrington's personal record of a public life describes with great warmth and humour the many people, from all over the world, who have come into his story, among them Harold MacMillan, William Slim, Robert Menzies, Henry Kissinger, Robert Mugabe, Dom Mintoff and others, which makes fascinating reading.
