Kevin Clifford was born in Hull in 1946, and was taught to fish at an early age by his uncle. He is one of the best known coarse fishermen in Britain. He has been fishing for over thirty years and has an impressive list of big fish captures of a number of different species. His interest in carp angling developed in the late 1960's, and before long he was travelling far and wide in search of his obsession.
An avid collector of magazines, books and historical items relating to fishing, he began writing about the subject himself in 1972. His first book.'Redmire Pool' written collaboration with Len Arbery, was published in 1984. 'Master Fisherman - Carp' followed in 1989 and 'A History of Carp Fishing' in 1992 and the revisited edition. Kevin's journalistic abilities were given free-rein in 1990, when he began editing a new angling magazine titled Big Fish World.
"Renowned for its elusiveness, its guile and, once hooked, its awesome, often unstoppable power, the carp presents anglers at all levels of experience with a special challenge. Probably more than any other coarse species, it generates legend, lore, and endless speculation, inspiring in many nothing less than total devotion.
Kevin Clifford is one such devotee, having pursued and studied the species since his teens. Master Fisherman: Carp is the distillation of more than three decades of hard- won experience. It combines a detailed and indispensable examination of the fish's natural history with a wealth of tried-and-tested advice on location, tackle, techniques, specialist rigs, and today's perplexing choice of baits. Winter carp fishing, still unexplored by many anglers, is the subject of a separate chapter. So are the wide choice of carp waters in Britain and the exciting opportunities for catching big carp in Europe.
Throughout this book the author's invaluable insights into his success with carp - most of which he puts down to sheer hard work - are complemented by the thought - provoking contributions of other well- known carp specialists. Carp offers a comprehensive, insider's view that will captive the newcomer to carp fishing, strengthen the passion of the committed, and even enlighten the seasoned specimen - hunter."
