Each book is complete with folded map of Middle Earth attached to back endpapers.The books are in good condition with red cloth boards with gilt decoration and lettering on spines and illustrated dust jackets.
John Ronald Reuel Tolkien was born on January 3, 1892, in Bloemfontein, South Africa. After serving in World War I, he embarked upon a distinguished academic career and was recognized as one of the finest philologists in the world. He was a professor of Anglo-Saxon at Oxford, a fellow of Pembroke College, and a fellow of Merton College until his retirement in 1959. He is, however, beloved throughout the world as the creator of Middle-earth and author of such classic works as The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. He died on September 2, 1973, at the age of eighty-one

Very slight wear to the illustrated dust jacket, which is price clipped (minor creasing to bottom spine edges and slight creasing and rubbing to top edges and top spine edges, some creasing/ chipping to top corner). Internally, the pages are clean and tight and there are no tears and no inscriptions. Some fading to the red page ends.

The Return of the King is the third and last book of The Lord of the Rings trilogy. In this concluding volume of the epic trilogy; As Sauron launches the final stages of his conquest of Middle-Earth, Gandalf the Wizard, and Th?oden King of Rohan rally their forces to help defend Gondor's capital Minas Tirith from the looming threat. Aragorn finally claims the throne of Gondor and summons an army of ghosts to help him defeat Sauron.
