Jonathan Wesley Bell THE PRAIRIE DANCERS First Edition

First edition first print hardback of THE PRAIRIE DANCERS by Jonathan Wesley Bell and published by Buchan & Enright Ltd in 1985.

The book is in very good condition (red cloth boards with gilt lettering to spine) with light bumping to the top and bottom edges of the spine and light foxing to the top page edges. The book is in a very good- unclipped dust jacket which has light creasing to the edges and rather pronounced colour fading to the spine. Internally the pages are clean and tight and there are no tears or other inscriptions.

Possie Victoria Vandermark charges forth from her mansion in Possum Trot, her new Jaguar racing her into lost corners of high prairie that surround the forlorn little town. She is wild as the prairie wind, spoiled, and eccentric. Her one stubborn determination is to become a ballerina, although her size and awkwardness make this more than doubtful. To force things her way Possie hires an ageing Italian ballet dancer whose career is over and who sees that the rich Possie could be his retirement pension.

Playful, savagely funny and lyrical in turn, this effervescent and anarchic satire on human desires and inhibitions diverts, delights and captivates the reader.
