From the author of the Yes, Minister and Yes, Prime Minister books and co-author of the hugely successful television series comes this funny and profound tour de force...
Despite appearances, Ernest Mayday is in desperate need of an idea. He has two best-selling novels, a million-dollar movie deal, a house in the Hollywood Hills, but not an idea in his head. In fact he is that most despised of characters: a novelist in Hollywood. What's worse, he's a British novelist with writer's block.
Then he answers an ad from a woman in desperate need of $10,000, now or soon. No holds barred. He asks the woman for details of all the other replies she has received and pledges to match however much money she earns from the ad. When she later contacts him with tales of jury-rigging in a high profile court case she is involved in, he believes he has found his story. He can write his novel while she faces the music.
But things are not so simple. Ernerst soon finds himself catapulted from his life of luxury into a world of corruption and random violence.
