Information
First edition first print hardback of YES PRIME MINISTER: The Diaries of the Right Hon. James Hacker VOLUME II. Edited by Jonathan Lynn and Antony Jay. Published by BBC Books in 1987. Signed and inscribed to a previous owner by both Jonathan Lynn and Antony Jay on the title page. Included is an invitation to a press preview of 'YES, PRIME MINISTER' in BBC Television center.

The book is in very good condition (blue leatherette boards with gilt lettering to spine) with some tanning to the pages, especially near and to the edges. The book is in a very good unclipped dust jacket which has light rubbing to edges and corners. Internally the pages are otherwise clean and tight and there are no tears or other inscriptions.

Between 1980 and 1988 on BBC television and radio, the exploits of the Rt Hon Jim Hacker MP (Paul Eddington) - later Prime Minister - kept the British nation enthralled. 'Yes Minister' written by Antony Jay and Jonathan Lynn which comprised three seven-episode series, was first transmitted on BBC2 from 1980 to 1984. A sequel, 'Yes, Prime Minister', ran for 16 episodes from 1986 to 1988.

Helped - and hampered - by his diligent Permanent Secretary Sir Humphrey Appleby (Nigel Hawthorne) and his Principle Private Secretary Bernard Woolley (Derek Fowlds), Hacker and his department became synonymous with government bureaucracy and administrative double dealing.

The series spawned several books. The scripts were edited and transformed into prose, and published by BBC Books in the form of diaries.

This second volume, which as always includes material not in the TV programmes, takes us even deeper into the labyrinth, with behind-the-scenes looks at city scandals, ministerial resignations, arts funding and 'working funerals'. Many literary classics become television classics, 'Yes Minister' and 'Yes Prime Minister' are television classics which have the rare distinction of becoming a classic of English comic literature.
