John Penoyre Michael Ryan THE OBSERVER'S BOOK OF ARCHITECTURE 1965 Reprint
Third reprint hardback of THE OBSERVER'S BOOK OF ARCHITECTURE written and illustrated by John Penoyre and Michael Ryan. Foreword by F. R. S. Yorke and published by Frederick Warne & Co. Ltd., London in 1965. The Observer's pocket series No.13.
The book is in very good condition (brown boards and blue lettering to spine and front) with slight creasing to the spine edges. The book is in a good unclipped dust jacket which is protected in a non-removable archival sleeve and has slight creasing to the edges, light rubbing to the spine edges and corners, a fingernail closed tear along the folding edge of the front flap and is slightly soiled at the back. Internally, the pages are clean and tight and there are no tears. There is a previous owner's inscription on the front endpaper.
This pocket guide, with its comprehensive Visual Index, contains 275 different illustrations, 125 of which are in colour. It describes the development of British architecture from Saxon times to the present day, and is designed to provide the observer with an adequate background of the development of building, planning and technique through the centuries.
