First edition first print hardback of THE AUTOBIOGRAPHY by John Major and published by HarperCollins in 1999. Signed to a previous owner by both John and Norma Major on the title page. Full numbeline is 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1.
The book is in near fine condition (black cloth boards with gilt lettering to spine) with a bit of bumping to the bottom corner of the front board. The book is in a very good unclipped dust jacket which has light creasing to the edges and fading to the colour of the photograph on the spine (it is now blue and white rather than full colour, as is common with this title). Internally the pages are clean and tight and there are no tears or other inscriptions.
Major's early life was extraordinary; his rise through Parliament meteoric. Soon a favourite of Margaret Thatcher, he became Foreign Secretary and then Chancellor of the Exchequer. When Thatcher fell, he fought and won a shrewd campaign to succeed her.
774 pages including Illustrations, Appendices and Index
