The book is in very good condition with only minor wear to the dust jacket, which is price clipped (rubbing/creasing to edges, nothing too drastic). Internally, the pages are clean and tight and there are no tears and no other inscriptions. Light stain on bottom page ends, and light scratch to back cover, but again nothing drastic at all. Some spinal lean.

John Berendt arrived in Venice in February 1996 for a long spell in the city that had captivated him on his first visit. His intention was simply to see it without the obscuring overlay of tourists, but he quickly realized his arrival had coincided with an extraordinary moment.
