First edition, first print paperback of WARHAMMER ARMIES: SKAVEN by Jeremy Vetock and published by Games Workshop Limited, Nottingham, in 2009, for the 7th edition of Warhammer. Art by John Blanche, Alex Boyd, Rob Carey, Paul Dainton, Dave Gallagher, Neil Hodgson, Nuala Kinrade, Adrian Smith. Book Design by Carl Dafforn, Emma Parrington, Mark Raynor.The book is in very good condition (Clean illustrated covers with white/yellow/red lettering on the spine and front) with only minor shelf wear (light rubbing to a couple of corners). Internally, the pages are clean and tight and there are no tears and no inscriptions.
Skaven were officially introduced into the tabletop wargame Warhammer Fantasy Battle in the Spring 1986 issue of the Citadel Journal magazine. They were billed as "a new Chaos race". However, the race had appeared a few months earlier as a free 'giveaway' Blood Bowl team in an earlier 1986 issue of White Dwarf magazine. Jes Goodwin sculpted the original 1986 Skaven range of Citadel Miniatures. Today, they are one of the main fifteen armies of Warhammer Fantasy Battle. Skaven also formed the core opponents of Games Workshop's popular Advanced HeroQuest adventure game, released in 1990. The name has been jokingly attributed to the Roland Rat catchphrase "Here's Kevin".
